Black is the automotive colour of 2007

Black is now the fashionable colour in Europe. According to a survey on automotive colour trends carried out by Standox, black took top position in 2007. It overtook silver, which had dominated the market for several years. Silver takes second place, with only a narrow lead over grey. Black cars are not subject to short-lived trends and therefore have a high resale value. Thanks to modern effect pigments, it is now possible to create exciting black shades that glitter with red, green or blue in direct sunshine. However, black's top ranking is not least due to the growing number of fleet and leasing vehicles finished in this colour.

All kinds of grey, (some with shades of green, blue or even violet) increased market share by five percent over the previous year, and the colour came quite close to the second position currently held by silver (which is down 6 % over 2006). The first “coloured” colour in the rankings is blue, a good way behind in fourth place. For more than ten years now, blue has been the classic colour favoured by motorists. In recognition of this enduring popularity, Standox created the new Exclusive Line colour “Blue Flame”.

Considering that the next place behind blue is held by white, it’s clear there has been no real trend towards extra colour on European streets during 2007. White is becoming more and more popular in Europe (up 4 %) and worldwide. The Coloristic experts from Standox keep a watchful eye on the paint creations of the car manufactures as well as the key indicators of colour trends in other industries, such as fashion, beauty products or consumer articles. Their findings contribute to the development of new, innovative shades for the Exclusive Line range - the special paints collection from Standox which has been leading the market in paint effects for more than 10 successful years.
