23.05.2008 EPA urges bodyshops to get registered Owners of vehicle refinishing operations have been reminded that the Decorative Paints Regulations, passed into law last year, require that their operations should have been inspected for Emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) before 1st March 2008 or they face the prospect of being closed down. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says its not too late for those bodyshops that missed the March 1, deadline but the need to act now. Section 26 of Decorative Paints Regulations (S.I. 199 of 2007) states “A person who contravenes or fails to comply with a provision of these Regulations shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €3,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months, or to both such fine and such imprisonment.” It certainly focuses the mind!
