Lloyd wins medal with Standox
Jonathon Lloyd has won a bronze medal in car painting using Standox materials at the World Skill Olympics in Japan. What makes Jonathon’s win even more remarkable is that even though he has an NVQ Level 3 and five years experience in body repair, he only had limited experience with Standox materials before the event. He was given a specialist course by Standox Technical Consultant Bernie Lee before travelling to the finals, as part of a dedicated Standox training support programme.
The Olympics presented a tough challenge for Jonathon. The event tests all areas of skill, including time management, technical ability, health and safety and overall management. Working against contestants from 18 other countries, Jonathon showed fine judgement to finish just 1.25 minutes inside the deadline after 22 hours of competition.
Jonathon works for Agnews in Belfast and started his paint training at Blackwater House. This is the second time he has entered the competition, and it is now hoped he will help contestants entered in the next Skills Olympics to be held in Canada in 2009.
