Enforcement of Deco-paints regulations

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the competent authority charged with enforcing the Deco-paints regulations can’t quantify the number of paint distributors that underwent inspection in 2008, writes John Loughran.

The Decorative Paints Regulations (S.I. 199 of 2007) designates the EPA as the competent authority for enforcement, which means the EPA is responsible for the establishment and supervision of monitoring programmes in Ireland.

The Regulations state the local authorities are the competent bodies for the enforcement of the Regulations. This requires local authorities to implement the monitoring programmes.
