06.11.2009 Colour trends at IAA 2009 The Standox marketing team went to the IAA in Frankfurt this year to watch out for trends especially in colour and technologies that could hit the refinish market in the near future. Many carmakers show their ideas and inspiration on so-called concept cars and on their new models. In the Standox Trend Report (http://standox.com/IAA-2009) you will get a colourful impression from a paint manufacturer’s point of view. White has arrived – whoever visited this years IAA in Frankfurt could not deny that white has taken over silver’s place in the ranking of the most favoured exhibition colour. Many cars that would have been presented in silver in the previous years now appeared in white, a trend shown from many different manufacturer model ranges and vehicle sizes. From big to small, from sporty to SUV- white works well! But next to all the whites and white pearl shades- back and silver remain as winners. Other colours such as bright and clean reds were popular to underline the image of prestigious sports cars. Single colourful spots here and there showed various shades of pink, violet and purple, which have future potential as a trend colour inspired by this year’s trend in the fashion and furniture industry. Subtle beige and brown shades fit to the unstoppable SUV trend and provide a sophisticated support to the modern shaped passenger cars. Also quite popular compared to the last years were light & bright green and yellow colours, these were spotted all over the different carmakers ranges. The greens were the popular choice for electric cars; the yellows were favoured for a sporty look, especially on smaller vehicles. In general light shades and colours like blue, green and tinted silvers symbolized the era of environmentally friendly cars. The established trends of matt clear coats and liquid metal effects continued to be shown as eye catchers on new models and concept cars. Back
