VBRA recovers almost £500,000 on behalf of members

Recessionary times invariably bring with them spiralling debt as individuals and businesses seek to protect dwindling cash reserves and ensure cash flow is maintained. This trend remained prominent throughout 2009 and resulted in the VBRA, the UK's leading Trade Association for Vehicle Body Building, CV, Car Body and SMART repair, being particularly active on behalf of members.

Commenting on financial problems experienced through 2009, Malcolm Tagg, the Director General of the VBRA stated: "Trading conditions throughout the year were extremely difficult for anyone involved in the motor vehicle sector with our statistics clearly demonstrating a significant increase in money owed by insurance companies, work providers and individuals to our members.”

He added: "It was a source of great comfort to many that the VBRA operates a free debt recovery service on behalf of its members as part of their membership benefits. I am very pleased to report that this facet of our operations was successful in recovering £469,381 of money owed across 485 cases. This is an impressive performance in its own right and particularly so when judged against the financial restraints in evidence throughout the year.

Concluding Tagg remarked: "Whilst we are witnessing some improvement in overall trading conditions in the UK, debt and cash flow in particular continue to remain problematical and will probably do so well into 2010.

Membership of the VBRA will effectively add an extra level of comfort and assurance to vehicle builders and repairers who will have to trade in these difficult conditions. The bottom line is that we have the skills, knowledge, experience and expertise to assist in debt recovery on behalf of members and an excellent track record of doing so most effectively."
