New car sales ahead of 2011 – 10 day figures show


New passenger car registrations for the first 10 days of January were up by more than a quarter on the corresponding period last year, new figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) confirm.

New passenger car registrations (8,531 units) were 26.9 per cent ahead of last year, while light commercial vehicle (LCV) registrations (699 units) were 29.9 per cent up on 2011.

Toyota tops the new passenger car charts with 1,620 registrations followed by Toyota (1,127) and Volkswagen (938).

Ford (159) top the LCV charts followed by Volkswagen (132) and Renault (104).

Volvo leads the heavy truck market with 53 units, followed by MAN with 24 units. There were 150 new heavy commercials registered in the first 10 days , compared with 68 in the first 10 days of January 2011.

N.B. *There were six working week days + a Saturday in the first ten days of this month. This compares with five working week days + a Saturday in the first ten days of January last year (2011).
