Federal-Mogul maximises flat wiper blade vehicle coverage

Federal-Mogul is building on its successful Champion Contact® flat wiper blade range by introducing five new rear wiper part numbers to the programme. The new parts cover popular Volkswagen vehicles, which are fitted with Federal-Mogul wiper blades as original equipment. These parts are now available to the aftermarket under the Champion brand.

Federal-Mogul’s single-packed Contact range, with its unique master connector system, gives distributors and workshops maximum coverage from a modest investment as well as fast turnover of stock.

“Adding these new rear wipers to our Champion Contact range further strengthens Federal-Mogul’s position in this important, fast-growing part of the aftermarket,” said Jonathan Allen, Federal-Mogul’s Field Marketing Manager EMEA.

“With 85% of new vehicles expected to be fitted with flat blades next year, the expansion of the Champion Contact range will help workshops and distributors capitalise on a significant business opportunity. Our flat blade range comes with all the necessary adapters for different vehicles providing coverage for 95% of the market from minimal stock. This makes Contact blades easier to fit and more profitable for garages.”

A retro-fit programme is also available as part of the OE-quality Champion Contact range that allows owners of vehicles with conventional wipers to upgrade to flat blades. This gives customers better performing wipers and improved vehicle aesthetics, creating additional business opportunities for workshops.

The improved aerodynamic properties of Champion flat blades push the blade onto the windscreen at high speed ensuring better contact, improving the efficiency of the blade. The flat blade share of the wipers aftermarket has grown from 0.5% in 2003 to 18% in 2010. By 2012 it is expected to reach 30%, a trend that Federal-Mogul expects to accelerate in the coming years as the growth in the OE market filters through.

Federal-Mogul also markets a mid-priced compact range of just 14 flat blade references to satisfy all customer requirements. Champion’s Easyvision® provides a high quality, cost optimised flat wiper blade for consumers seeking a mid-range product. This range also incorporates the retro-fit feature and has substantial vehicle coverage.
