28.09.2006 Northern Ireland Man Scoops Young Painter Of The Year A young Northern Ireland man has scooped the prestigious title of “Young Painter Of The Year” in the 2006 Thatcham / Bodyshop Craft Awards. Jonathan Lloyd, an apprentice with Bavarian Agnew Repair Centre in Belfast was presented with his award last Friday night at at Bodyshop Magazine’s Annual Industry Awards
Designed to recognise and identify the UK’s and Northern Ireland’s most talented bodyshop technicians, the Craft Awards also represents the official route for the selection of competitors to represent the UK at the WorldSkills competition, the next event being held in Japan in 2007, and the 2011 event in the UK. Craft Awards winners will be prepared by SkillAuto, the automotive repair industry’s competitions organisation, for the rigours of international competition.
From the finalists in each category, the following winners were announced on 22 September:
Young Panel Technician of the Year: Simon Noble of Simon Bailes Peugeot Ltd, Northallerton
Young Painter of the Year: Jonathan Lloyd, Bavarian Agnew Repair Centre, Belfast
Panel Technician of the Year: Michael Kusel, Abridge VW, Part of Jardine Motors Group PLC, Loughton
Painter of the Year: John Gurney, Lind Ltd, Norwich.
Thatcham’s co-sponsors of the awards were Lechler Coatings, Mirka Abrasives, The Institute of the Motor Industry and The Trade Group.
