28.03.2006 Bodyshops Need RMI Help - McMeel The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) must come to the aid of Northern Ireland’s ailing body repair sector, according to the RMI’s regional chairman Malachy McMeel. McMeel says the bodyshop sector in the North is facing turbulent times because of the dominant position of the insurance industry in the sector.
“In the body repair sector, one major repairer went out of business (recently). The cause of this was entirely due to the low labour charge out rate dictated by insurance companies,” McMeel commented.
He continued: It’s interesting, but when I require a builder to extend my workshop I don’t tell him what I will pay. No, he tells me what I have to pay. Whey then should insurance companies be allowed to behave in such a dictatorial manner. I now call on the RMI to address this problem before more bodyshops are closed.”
