Ambitious restoration of 1978 Toyota Landcruiser
Philip O’Brien, director of The Motor Medic Ltd. in Clondalkin is currently working on the restoration of what remains of this 1978 Toyota Landcruiser BJ40.
Philip had the Landcruiser imported in a container from Australia, and told Bodyshop.ie what he has in store for it.
The engine is a 3.0L diesel non-turbo, which is currently being rebuilt by Cork Engine Centre. While the gearbox and transfer box for the 4×4 system are in perfect condition, all axles have been fully stripped and reconditioned.
The Landcruiser’s original colour is beige but will be changed to the distinctive Toyota Landcruiser yellow. The body and wings have been media blasted. Carbon fibre wheel arches will also be fitted to all four corners.
Philip is doing an all-round suspension lift with the hope of raising the vehicle by about three inches. He’s also changing the wheels and tyres to match the suspension lift.
Philip is currently on the look out for a windscreen panel, two front doors, two rear barn doors and two upper side panels to complete the restoration of this Toyota Landcruiser BJ40. He can be contacted on 01 405 64 30.
