Drying and curing paint: practical advice from Standox

When it comes to achieving the best results in the bodyshop, refinishers understand that even flawless paint application can be spoilt during the drying and curing process.

To avoid any mishaps, here is some simple to follow advice from Standox to ensure a perfect finish every time.

Jodie Henly, Standox brand specialist, explains, “The paint must get the required length of time at the recommended temperature to through-cure thoroughly. This may sound obvious, but these simple rules are not always adhered to and this can result in three main issues: a soft clearcoat, loss of gloss or poor polishability.”

“All Standox products can be dried using infra red technology, which maximises time saving, especially for Micro Repairs. However, it is always advisable to follow the recommendations on the technical data sheets.

“The new drying technologies are becoming increasingly popular and they can save on time and energy costs. However, these alternative systems all differ slightly so it is important for refinishers to contact their local Standox technician before using for further advice on compatibility.

“Finally, it is strongly recommended to get spray booths checked on a yearly basis to ensure optimum performance and results.”
