Enterprise Rent-A-Car takes on bag run for Dublin Simon Community
Enterprise Rent-A-Car, a proud partner of the Dublin Simon Community, has been hitting the roads this week for the charity’s winter woolly bag-run campaign. Running over a ten day period, approximately 20 Enterprise employees have volunteered to travel to companies, collecting bags of donated winter clothing and food hampers. The Enterprise team with its dedicated van aims to transport approximately 60 bags per day to the Simon shops on Thomas Street and Camden Street over the coming days.
Enterprise is one of many companies who will be donating both previously worn and brand new clothing including hats, gloves, scarves, socks and thermals which will go towards filling packs for the Dublin Simon Community Rough Sleeper team to distribute. Other items will be used to stock the Simon shops. The donations Simon receive into their shops are extremely important as they provide clothing and other items to help people accessing their services, including clients rough sleeping or people accessing their emergency, supported housing or treatment services. Simon provide packs using donations of clothing, toiletries and other items for people staying in their emergency accommodation, later in preparation for interviews and work placements and eventually for when people are moving into a home of their own. Remaining items or whatever is not suitable are sold in the shops to raise vital funds.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been working with the charity since 2013 and has in that time organised a customer appreciation cinema evening and organised and participated in soccer tournaments with the charity’s Health and Wellbeing service.
“The Simon Community is the official charity partner to Enterprise Rent-A-Car for 2014 / 2015 and we are delighted to be able to support the services of the charity, which does excellent work helping those experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow,” said JP Denker, project co-ordinator and Head of Insurance and Replacement Division Ireland, Enterprise Rent-A-Car.”
“This is the first time we have been involved with the bag run and the team have really embraced the project. In January many of us will be back at the Dublin Simon Community shops to assist in sorting and organising the bags – we’re really looking forward to getting stuck in and hope to be involved in the initiative for many years to come,” JP continued.
“We’re delighted that Enterprise Rent-A-Car have come on board, helping to transport goods for the bag run this year. We have been working together since 2013 on various projects and would like to thank everyone at Enterprise Rent-A-Car for their ongoing support. By volunteering their time and resources, the team will help us distribute warm clothing, food hampers and other items to our clients. These essential items will make a real difference to people and families experiencing homelessness this Christmas”, said Justyna Drogomirecka of the Dublin Simon Community.
“This year our aim is to collect 90 food hampers and up to 60 bags of clothing that amounts to as much as €2,000 euro worth of goods, which will be distributed to families and those in need over the winter months. We are extremely grateful to Enterprise for their support in helping us meet our goal,” Justyna continued.
