EVs to get green number plates in UK

The British government has announced that green number plates for electric vehicles will be rolled out across the UK this autumn.

The plates will have a green strip on the left hand side and will only be available for zero emission vehicles, meaning hybrid vehicles will not qualify.

It is hoped that the plates will encourage drivers to switch to electric, as the green plates will make it easier to identify zero emission vehicles. This in turn could lead to cheaper parking, free entry into zero emission zones and access to bus lanes.

The idea was first proposed by the British government last October, in line with the UK’s plan of net zero emissions by 2050.
