As part of its ongoing drive to future-proof and upskill independent garages, LKQ Euro Car Parts Team P R Reilly is launching its full range of diagnostic training courses in Ireland, through its Auto Education Academy.
From September, the ‘Road to Success’ training programme will offer 11 one-day courses to cover all areas of diagnostics, from fundamental electrics to advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and catalytic converters to smart charging.
Technicians can select individual courses to take based on their existing skillset, or can sign up for the full programme. To help them decide, the Auto Education Academy platform offers nine free skills tests that technicians can use to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Upon completion of all 11 Road to Success courses, technicians in Ireland will be able to achieve IMI Level 3 diagnostic accreditation for the first time.
Simon Lee, head of training at LKQ Euro Car Parts Team P R Reilly said: “The Road to Success programme is designed to help garages keep up with customer demand and deliver work to a consistently high standard. In a market with a relatively low number of dealerships, there is a real opportunity for independent garages to increase the scope of the services they offer and grow their share of service and repair work. Investing in the right training is key to this.
“This move marks the first time we’re offering ADAS training in Ireland; given that ADAS will be mandatory on all new registrations from 2022, technicians need to upskill now. If garages are doing service and repair work without taking ADAS into account, there could be thousands of vehicles on the roads that are out of calibration. This could compromise driver safety and the overall experience at the wheel, as well as meaning that garages are missing an opportunity to increase revenue by carrying out calibrations as standard.”
Individual Road to Success courses are available to garages from €399, or the full programme costs €1,999.
