Gilbert Joseph Tunney, RIP.

It is with regret that we inform readers that the death has occurred of Gilbert Joseph Tunney OBE. He passed away unexpectedly in the South West Acute Hospital earlier today (Friday, 17th July 2020).
Gilbert founded GT Exhausts in 1975. He was a great entrepreneur. He started his career as a vehicle mechanic. He went on to build GT Exhausts into a major manufacturer in the replacement sector, and also as a manufactures of original equipment which are exported across Europe, the USA, South America and Japan.
Gilbert’s entrepreneurial spirit and outstanding achievements, which span over 60 years, were rewarded in 2016, when he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours’ List. He was also acknowledged by the motor industry – Gilbert was presented with an Exceptional Achievement Award at the Irish Auto Trade Awards. It recognised Gilbert’s contribution to the motor industry on the island of Ireland, stretching back more than 60 years.
Gilbert made a huge contribution to an ever-evolving motor industry, whilst through a passion for his profession, he also became an outstanding ambassador for the very best in industry.
Gilbert will be reposing in his late residence at Chanterhill Road, Enniskillen, from 7pm on Friday, 17th July. Gilbert will leave his late residence at 10.15am on Monday, 20th July, for 11am Requiem Mass in St Michael’s Church, Enniskillen, followed by his interment in Cross Cemetery, Enniskillen.
For those who wish to show a presence along the funeral route Gilbert will travel along the Chanterhill Road, Drumclay Link, Irvinestown Road, Belmore Street and High Street to St Michael’s Church.
In light of the Corona virus and in the interests of health and safety within the community, the wake and funeral will be private. As an alternative, the Funeral Mass can be viewed via the St Michael’s Church webcam.
We express our sincere sympathy to his loving wife Winnie, daughters Tracey, Nessa, Claire, Edel, Julie, Gail, Zoe, and Joelene, as well as his sons-in-law, grandchildren, brother, sister, the entire family circle and his many friends.
May he rest in peace.
