Glasurit Eco Balance range now certified by REDcert²

In 2017, BASF’s premium refinish paint brand Glasurit launched Eco Balance – a product line that helps save fossil raw materials and reduce CO2 emissions. Now, this biomass balanced range has been certified according to the new REDcert² standard.

In the biomass balance approach, fossil resources are replaced with renewables in the very first step of the production process and allocated to the respective product. The method, which was developed by BASF together with TÜV Süd, drives the use of renewable raw materials, saves fossil resources and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The formulation and quality of the corresponding end products remain unchanged. The standard is now owned by REDcert and it guarantees that the respective amount of biomass inserted into the BASF production process is correctly allocated to the Glasurit Eco Balance products.

Glasurit commits itself to certify all biomass balanced products according to the new REDcert² standard for chemical products. The basis is the REDcert-EU standard, which is compliant with the EU Directive on renewable energy.

Glasurit’s certified Eco Balance portfolio encompasses primer, body filler, hardener, clearcoat and additives, that are used in particular for repairing bumpers and moderate damage. This means that body shops can repair the most common types of damage very efficiently and in an environmentally compatible manner to boot.

“We are proud to set new standards in the area of sustainability of refinish products” said Marco Benen, sustainability manager at BASF’s coatings division. “By using Glasurit Eco Balance, body shops can underscore their unique ‘We work sustainably’ selling proposition and serve as reliable partners for all insurance companies and car manufacturers that also value sustainability.”
