Grey remains Ireland’s favourite car colour

More than 36,000 passenger cars sold in Ireland to date in 2021 are grey, retaining its title as the country’s most popular car colour.

Grey cars currently make up a 34.85 per cent share of the Irish car market, down almost three per cent on this time last year despite a 10.22 per cent increase in units sold (33,053).

The second most popular colour to date in 2021 is black, with 19,874 units sold so far. Black currently has a 19.01 per cent share of the market here in Ireland.

Blue, white/ivory and red/maroon make up the top five most sold car colours to date for 2021, according to figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

Of the top 10 best selling car colours in Ireland, orange is the only colour down year-to-date (-0.93%), with 748 units sold.

Meanwhile, sales of cars finished in ‘grey and black’ have almost trebled, with 1,204 sold year-to-date compared to 302 in 2020, the figures show.
