HCV and PSV operators get self declaration advice
Owners of Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV) or Public Service Vehicles (PSV) – trucks and trailers over 3,500 kgs, ambulances or buses with eight passengers or more have been advised that a new requirement will be introduced in 2014 whereby they will need to self declare with the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
The RSA says that self-declaration will be a way to keep all the information about vehicle(s) in one place. It will make it easier for operators to manage their vehicles and for the RSA to make sure all the vehicles on Irish roads are safe.
Vehicle operators are being advised that it will be a legal requirement to self declare to theRSA and that they will not receive their Certificate of Roadworthiness until they have completed the process.
Once the requirement is introduced operators will need to provide the following information, which they will be able to do online:
- Company details
- Depot address
- Industry
- Type of goods transported
- Memberships, associations or schemes the operator belongs to
- Contact details
- Vehicle details
Vehicle maintenance details
The RSA says that self declaration will mean more efficiency for everyone. The RSA will target enforcement for vehicle owners who aren’t compliant, instead of random premises and roadside checks.
