THE Motoring Editor of the Irish Independent, Eddie Cunningham (pictured) has just been appointed to the jury of the prestigious World Car Awards.

2014-08-06_lif_2083349_I1He will be the only Irish representative on the elite global jury of expert motoring journalists.

Their duties include driving and assessing cars from all over the world before, ultimately, voting for the overall World Car of the Year.

The World Car Awards is the Number One programme of its kind across the globe, according to an independent audit of media coverage.

On his appointment, Eddie Cunningham said: “I feel privileged to be on the jury and looke forward to bringing readers even more motoring news items.

Succeeds Padraic Deane

Eddie succeeds our own Padraic Deane, publisher and managing editor here at Automotive Publications as the Irish juror. Padraic stepped down last year after a very successful six-year term.

Padraic remains Ireland’s juror for the prestigious ‘International Engine of the Year Awards’ and the ‘Vehicle Dynamics International Awards’.

Padraic Deane said: “I am really pleased that Eddie has been selected to represent Ireland on the World Car jury. He is Ireland’s top full-time motoring journalist and long-time motoring editor of the Irish Independent, Ireland’s largest circulation daily newspaper.

Eddie has also a long association as a guest writer with Automotive Publications, in particular Motorshow Car Buyers’ Guide. I wish Eddie continued success in his new role and I know he will do a great job.”
