Irishman unveils Peugeot Food Truck

The Peugeot Design Lab, headed by Irishman Cathal Loughnane, has this week premiered its newest creation, the Peugeot Food Truck. Dubbed ‘Le Bistrot du Lion’, the new restaurant on wheels aims to deliver high-quality food on the go and will take centre stage on the Peugeot stand in Italy’s fashion capital at the 2015 Milan Design Week,. The star attraction will then head to the French Pavilion at the 2015 World’s Fair, Expo Milano, where the theme will be ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.

Since the company was founded, over 200 years ago, Peugeot has designed and manufactured thousands of domestic objects and vehicles. The Peugeot Food Truck is an heir to these traditions: a mobile object, an automobile, which, once parked, becomes a food truck unlike any other. Featuring short front and rear overhangs to ensure manoeuvrability, a long wheelbase offers considerable load volume. Once on site, it spreads its wings to double its width, offering a versatile space that can easily be adapted to any environment. Accommodating 30 persons comfortably, with separate areas for food preparation, eating and refreshments, a DJ booth showcases the new digital music platform launched by the Peugeot brand, Peugeot Music: http://peugeotmusic.com. True foodies enjoy interactive access to the chef’s every move with the aid of a 46-inch screen and speakers, strategically placed in order to retransmit even the faintest mouth-watering sizzle. It has been designed to recuperate and recycle all waste.

On board, chefs benefit from two grilling plates and four induction burners as well as a deep fryer. The ventilation system ensures optimum air quality and a 400-litre refrigerated under-foot compartment allows food to stay fresh. A 350-litre refrigerator keeps drinks cold, and a professional espresso machine, by Rocket Espresso, provides patrons with delicious coffee at the end of their meals.Â

At the unveiling of the Food Truck, Irishman, Cathal Loughnane, Head of the Peugeot Design Lab said, “The end-users are always at the heart of all of our designs. For the Peugeot Food Truck, we wanted to create a complete mobile cuisine experience, not only creating a kitchen for the chef but a restaurant and cafe for the customers.  A lot of attention was given to opening up the kitchen and allowing the chef and food preparation to be as close to the public as possible. We also wanted to create a real sense of surprise as the compact Peugeot Food Truck transforms into an amphitheatre-like dining space ‘Le Bistrot du Lion’.”

Peugeot has selected the talented French chef Sven Chartier, of Saturne and Le Clown Bar in Paris, as the first culinary tenant of ‘Le Bistrot du Lion’.  An ideal pairing of the brand’s first mobile restaurant with a chef who respects and believes in local sourcing and organic farming. Chef Chartier will be using the latest Peugeot salt and pepper mill set. With 2.5 million units manufactured each year and sold worldwide, the Peugeot salt and pepper mills hold a prized place with the world’s best chefs due to their precision and durability.

Peugeot launched the Peugeot Design Lab in 2012: http://www.peugeotdesignlab.com/. Its primary mission is to design products, services and experiences in every sector outside the automotive industry. Galway man, Cathal Loughnane, 37, took up the reins of the Peugeot Design Lab, after spending 10 years working on interior design and concept cars for the Group’s Peugeot and Citroen brands.
