Is your business solvent compliant?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is asking refinishers, paint suppliers and Motor Factors if they are compliant with the Solvent Regulations.

If you are a vehicle refinisher, you should have an in date certificate of compliance, as issued by your local authority. If you haven’t, you should arrange for an inspection by an EPA approved assessor immediately.

If you are a motor factor or paint supplier, are all of the vehicle refinishing products that you sell compliant with regard to VOC content and labelling requirements? If not, you must remove these products from the market immediately, the EPA warns.

Non-compliance with the above is an offence and may lead to further enforcement actions, including the imposition of on-the-spot fines which are scheduled to be introduced in 2015.

“If you are aware of any operators in your area that are either operating illegally or are selling non-compliant paint products, please help by providing the details of these operators to (a) your local authority directly (b) to your approved assessor during the inspection process, or (c) by phoning the National Environmental Complaints Line (in confidence) on 1850 365 121,” an EPA spokesman told BodyShop.ie.
