It’s still all about enforcement
The Department of Environment, Culture and Local Government is currently undertaking a review of the Solvent and Deco-paint regulations. The Accredited Inspector Contractor (AIC) scheme is also under review and the Irish Bodyshop Journal understands that draft new regulations will be published in the next few weeks.
It has been speculated that the new regulations, will bring some much needed relief for licensed refinishers and will go some way towards levelling the playing field with regards the unlicensed trade.
It is to be hoped that the new regulations, when they finally become law will lighten the burden on the licensed bodyshop trade.
The VBRS and VRA have both campaigned for changes to the regulations and its is now anticipated that the new draft regulations will deliver cost and administrative savings for licensed refinishers.
It is thought that the new regulations will see reduced inspection costs and frequency and the possibility of new AICs coming into the market.
