Non-compliant paint suppliers get on-the-spot fine reminder

Suppliers of non-compliant paints can now be hit with on-the-spot fines of between €500 and €1,000, the Environmental Protection Agency, has confirmed.

Paints suppliers are being advised to make sure they are in compliance with the requirements of the Decorative Paints Regulations (S.I. No. 564 of 2012).

Non-compliance with the requirements of these regulations is an offence and may lead to court prosecution, imposition of a court fine of up to €5,000 and/or 6 months in prison.

Meanwhile, the EPA is urging bodyshops to provide details of non-compliant paint suppliers to their Approved Assessor or to their local authority directly, or by phoning the National Environmental Complaints Line (in confidence) on 1850 365 121.
