Northern Ireland drivers urged to book emergency MOT test

Motorists in Northern Ireland have been urged to book an emergency MOT test to avoid “costly fines”.

According to the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA), motorists in Northern Ireland face a 72-day wait for an MOT test.

In a post on Facebook, Claire Sugden, an independent politician for East Derry, said: “Unfortunately booking an MOT test remains difficult for many across Northern Ireland.

“If you do not have a valid MOT you are currently unable to tax your vehicle which could lead to costly fines.

“In order to assist those who cannot get a test booked in time for their car tax expiring, the DVA have launched a new form where you can request an urgent MOT test.

“These tests are only available to those whose tax has expired or is due to expire in the next 10 days.”

She also shared a link to book an emergency test for those whose tax has expired or is due to imminently.

The Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) opposition in Northern Ireland last week proposed a move to MOT testing every other year for cars under 10 years old to address significant waiting times.
