PPG delivers 1,000th MoonWalk automotive refinish mixing system

PPG has completed the 1,000th installation of its MoonWalk automated refinish paint mixing system. The milestone system was installed at Group Perez Rumbao’s facility in Vigo, Spain.

According to PPG, the MoonWalk system saves labour, reduces waste and transforms the refinish mixing room into a clean and safe environment, setting a new standard for the refinish market.

The first MoonWalk in Ireland was installed at the new ARM International Automotive Academy in Athlone.

It adds that paint technicians and bodyshop managers benefit from the extreme accuracy of the automated mixing process, which improves speed, quality and colour consistency.

PPG Refinish UK & Ireland installed the first MoonWalk in Ireland back in 2020 at the new ARM International Automotive Academy in Athlone.

PPG states that its MoonWalk system is sized to fit all mixing rooms and features 80 storage spaces for tinters and 13 positions in the dispensing rack. Other components include a barcode scanner, a label printer and a moving scale that is 10 times more precise than a standard scale, PPG claims.

The user loads the required tinter, additive and thinner bottles into the dispensing rack. The system then checks each bottle’s barcode, automatically dispensing the correct amount of product and printing a label.
