PPG gives Sovereign Horseboxes the wow factor

In the world of horseboxes ‘first impressions count’ and Sovereign Horseboxes is certainly an icon representing the “best of the best”. Now offering a complete solution from build to custom paint designs, Sovereign Horseboxes business has recently expanded with support from PPG.

Here Mitch Jackson, founder and owner of Sovereign Horseboxes; a Wolverhampton based manufacturer of luxury and bespoke horseboxes, explains why he chose  PPG as the sole paint partner for Sovereign Horseboxes.

Sovereign Horseboxes; a family run business; has been manufacturing luxury horseboxes since 1998. With 20 employees in the business with a wealth of knowledge, experience and craftsmanship the business prides itself on the quality of its creations.

It was for this very reason Mitch reviewed his operations and decided to put big expansion plans into action.

Following increasing demand for custom paint designs on the horseboxes Mitch recently took the decision to upgrade the business by introducing an in house paint booth, preparation area and paint mixing room. By bringing its paint operations in house Sovereign can now offer a complete flexible solution for its customers.

Mitch comments on the investment “Now that our paint operations are in house and controlled by my team we have an increased level of design and quality in the final product. The teams knowledge and passion is now evident throughout each vehicle from start to finish”

Having altered its business model and utilised its skilled workforce Sovereign is able to service its customer needs. After all, in the world of horseboxes ‘First impressions count’ and Sovereign can now offer bespoke paint designs to really give its customers unique finishes.

A key decision surrounding the implementation of the paint facility was choosing a paint partner who could deliver a high quality paint system that combines excellent appearance and lasting quality.

The quality of the materials used in the construction of Sovereign Horseboxes is of paramount importance to the business and its customers. Mitch tells us they are the basics on which Sovereign sets its standards as the quality of materials determines the financial and physical value of the horsebox and equally importantly the durability. Sovereign looked to PPG on the recommendation of one of their painters who was highly experienced in PPG’s DELFLEET® Commercial Vehicle Paint System. Having invited PPG to Sovereign to establish what was required Mitch had no hesitation in choosing PPG as the partner.

Sovereign Horseboxes are 100% PPG from Delfleet epoxy primers and PPG Commercial Vehicle waterborne basecoats to Delfleet clearcoat to get the very best result possible.

Sovereign’s Paint Manager Alan says “I’ve been painting for many years and I’ve found working with the PPG system is easy; the flexibility and workability of the waterborne basecoat really suits us”. Alan continues “The PPG system gives a really nice finish and the colour match is great; and the added bonus is the quick drying time”

PPG Regional Business Manager, Daljit Singh and PPG CT Technical Solutions, Allan Cooper have been instrumental in supporting Sovereign Horseboxes. According to Mitch, the PPG team has made a significant difference to Sovereigns operations. “PPG offers so much more in technical advice, product and service. They were able to adjust our product mix and improve our performance; they have also introduced new finishes and colours to help improve our offer”

One example of this is the introduction of PPG CHROMAFLAIR® colours. According to Mitch the ChromaFlair colours have added a real splash of personality and character to Sovereign horseboxes. “We have recently completed a project for a high profile customer in the football industry using ChromaFlair and it’s outstanding. The unique finish is an extra feature we can offer to our customers.”

The finish has generated a great deal of interest at various shows and demonstrations; Sovereign has generated a number of orders for the ChromaFlair finish. Mitch says “it’s the paint that gives our customers the real WOW factor; we are continuing to work with PPG to look a new paint designs”
