Ring turns 50

Automotive lighting and auto electrics supplier, Ring, is turning 50 years old in 2024 and says it will be celebrating in style throughout the year.

In 1974, Danny Rivlin had an idea to create a new company with a sole focus on distributing bulbs to the automotive aftermarket. While there have been many developments in the 50 years since Ring has been created, providing quality products to the aftermarket whilst concentrating on its customer relationships has been a constant.

Although the company began in lighting, primarily bulbs, it has grown to become a leader in other areas of the automotive industry too, such as tyre and battery care. Now, Ring is active in more than 40 countries worldwide, with 25 product ranges for cars and commercial vehicles.

Throughout its 50 years, Ring says it has always observed changes in the market and spotted gaps where it can provide products that solve problems drivers or technicians may encounter. One example is when stop start technology was introduced, it naturally put more pressure on vehicles’ electric systems, so Ring introduced smart battery chargers into its offering. The range has subsequently grown to provide both motorists and technicians with a host of options for consumer and professional alike.

While products are always at the core of a business, it’s been the people involved in Ring that has made it as successful as it is today. The company has always invested in its people and many in the industry have grown their careers at Ring. Some have been starting out in the aftermarket, several have remained at the company for the majority of their careers, whereas others have progressed into more senior roles elsewhere.

To celebrate its successes in the industry, Ring says it is ensuring its 50th year is memorable for everyone associated with the company. Included in the celebrations, the team has produced unique limited edition gifts for customers with a custom designed Lego kit and a specially brewed Yorkshire beer.

Ring also looks forward to its annual event which has now become well recognised within the automotive aftermarket – ‘Ringmechanika’.

Managing director for Ring, Andy Gratton, said: “We’re thrilled to reach our 50th year, it’s an incredible achievement for any company and we’re very proud of our people, products and far reaching relationships including our valued customers and suppliers.

“I’m honoured that I’m at the helm of this company for a huge milestone in our history and we’re looking forward to making 2024 our best year yet!

“I’ve spent some time recently looking back through Ring’s history and how far it’s come in the industry after starting out by selling bulbs, and because of the people involved in the company, it’s evolved into a respected organisation in an ever-changing industry.

“We will continue to thrive in the aftermarket and we look forward to the next 50 years – long may Ring continue and flourish!”
