Silver colour of choice for Irish motorists
Silver was the colour of choice for the majority of Irish motorists purchasing a new car last year, statistics released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) confirm.
Pther poular colours included black and red, but Silver came out on top as the most popular colour in 2012.
A total of 79,498 new cars sold, down 12 per cent on 2011. Volkswagen was the best selling car brand in 2012 followed by Toyota and Ford. The Ford Focus was the best selling car of 2012 followed by the Volkswagen Golf and the Nissan Qashqai.
More than nine out of 10 (92 per cent) of cars sold last year were in the two lowest CO2 emission categories, 2 per cent more than in 2011. 23 per cent of cars sold in 2012 were petrol, 74 per cent diesel.
