SIMI to establish not-for-profit ELV Compliance Scheme company

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) is poised to establish a  not-for-profit ELV Compliance Scheme company, arising out of the Government’s recent PRI Review and its recommendations.

SIMI says it is currently reviewing the motor industry’s position in relation to compliance in the area of End of Life Vehicles (ELVs).

It will soon host interviews for the positions of Chief Executive and Operations Director for a new prospective not-for-profit ELV Compliance Scheme Company, backed by the membership of the SIMI.

Chief Executive
The Chief Executive, who will report to the ELV Company’s Board of Directors, will:
•  Participate in the development of the Compliance Scheme’s plans and implement the organisation’s strategic programme.
• Provide leadership in the corporate governance, management, and administration of the prospective Scheme.
• Evaluate and advise the Board on the affect of new programmes and strategies in this regulatory environment.
• Analyse budgets and financial reports in order to assist the Board and senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
• Evaluate the Scheme structure, operations, and personnel for continual improvement, while building and maintaining stakeholder relations.
• Develop and implement strategies to enable the Company deliver on achieving the agreed targets.

The Chief Executive will be an experienced executive with appropriate industry experience, ideally in the area of waste compliance and/or ELVs. The individual should be energetic and creative with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image. The individual should have a strategic vision with sound technical skills, analytical ability, strong operational focus, and should be decisive and possess a perspective on the larger issues involved. He/she should have appropriate educational qualifications and at least 7 years experience at a senior level.

Operations Director
The Operations Director, who will report to the Chief Executive, will take responsibility for the development and implementation of best practice within all areas of operational management of the Scheme. Their key tasks and responsibilities will include:
• Implementation of ISO and other necessary accreditations.
• Representation of the interests of the scheme to ensure customer and public relations are managed in a manner which enhances the standing and reputation of the company.
• Introduce appropriate KPIs and implement continuous improvement.
• Ensure management information is delivered accurately and in timely manner to all key stake holders.
• Ensure continued focus on achievement of required targets.

The Operations Director will have strong experience, ideally in the Irish/ European automotive industry and/or in the recycling and ELV market. The Individual should be willing to work with multiple stakeholders to deliver services and achieve targets and have excellent communication skills. A proven track record of working at management or senior supervisory level in an operations related capacity is essential while a working knowledge of best practices in all areas of producer responsibility initiatives is desirable.
