Soltec opens new waste treatment and recovery facility in Mullingar

Soltec (Ireland) Ltd has opened a newly developed five-acre waste treatment and recovery facility in the IDA Business Park in Mullingar.

The opening of this facility is the result of a multi-million euro investment programme from Soltec that began in 2016. The site is now Soltec’s primary treatment, processing, storage and distribution facility.

Soltec says its new state-of-the-art facility can manage 20,000 tonnes of waste on an annual basis – an increase of 300 per cent on previous capacity. It adds that 469 categories of hazardous and non-hazardous waste can be treated onsite, and expects 25 jobs to be created.

The opening of the new facility was attended by Peter Burke TD, Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, who commented: “Soltec not only puts Mullingar on the national stage but on an international platform, with years of development and investment by the company resulting in innovative technology, making them leaders in sustainable waste management to the benefit of their customers and our environment.

“Their growth is the result of hard work, resilience and ambition and I know they will continue to build on their success in the coming years.”

Soltec is also in the process of constructing a new distillation plant, further increasing capacity for treatment and recovery. This phase of investment includes a €150,000 investment in renewable energy production using a solar array on the roof of the facility and modern energy efficient equipment.

The company says this will reduce its own carbon footprint generated through its production process, further supporting Soltec’s commitment to environmental sustainability. This new facility is due to open in 2023.
