Stanners test candidates mettle at WorldSkills squad selection
Prospective candidates for the UK’s WorldSkills 2015 squad had their mettle tested in June by Stanners Equipment Ltd when they found themselves having to prove their abilities using the company’s equipment range.
Stanners were sponsors at the squad selection, held over three days at the premises of Emtec in Ruddington. Successful candidates will join the team heading to the WorldSkills 2015 competition, being held 11-16 August 2015 in São Paulo, Brazil.
WorldSkills promotes professional excellence and competence development across the world via its skills competitions. Every two years hundreds of young skilled people, accompanied by their teachers and trainers compete before the public in the skills of their various trades and test themselves against demanding international standards. They are drawn from regional and national skill competitions held currently in 72 countries and regions.
The three day selection event tested four candidates vying for a place on the UK automotive team in a variety of skills:
Bonding and riveting on a sill section including self pierce and flow form rivets
Mag and spot welding
Metal finish repair
Outer A pillar panel replacement
Equipment used in the series of tests included the latest elektron transformer gun spot welders, Stanners’ 1T expert mig/mag machines and Stanners’ TKR riveter.
Also on demonstration was the latest chief measuring system.
Commenting on the event, Stanners Equipment Ltd Managing Director John Stanners said: “It is important that the need for professional development in our industry and beyond is recognised and celebrated. Stanners is pleased to be involved with something that not only helps youngsters move forward in their chosen careers, but also helps to inspire those coming up behind them.”
