Thousands of waste tyres dumped in Co Meath
Meath County Council is currently investigating the illegal dumping of over 3,000 waste tyres on forest land near Longwood Village.
It is understood that the incident occurred during the night of Thursday, 12th January.
The Council says the waste tyres would have been generated by tyre suppliers and/or fitters and dumped by “unscrupulous waste collectors”.
It estimates that the clean-up will cost the private landowner more than €7,000.
Meath County Council is urging landowners to secure their land with locked gates and fencing to deter this activity from occurring.
All businesses that sells tyres are required to be registered with Circol ELT (www.circolelt.ie) and must ensure that only waste including waste tyres are transferred to authorised waste collectors.
The Council adds that you should always ask for a proof of waste collection permit and retain documentation for waste tyres collected.
