Trico gets BMW approval

Trico has received approval from BMW Group for its rear arm and wiper blade to be fitted as standard on the new BMW X1, 2 Series Active Tourer and iX models.

The blade and arm use a completely new design that has been developed by Trico engineers specifically for these vehicles.

The wiper uses a beam blade for maximum windscreen contact and the arm design is lower and flatter than previous versions, with a cleaner integration between arm and blade, resulting in increased visibility through the rear windscreen.

The BMW iX represents a further foray into the electric vehicle market for the brand. With aims by vehicle manufacturers to reduce vehicle weight at every opportunity, this new Trico wiper arm design uses significantly less plastic than previous incarnations, reducing weight and helping improve efficiency and vehicle range.

First Brand Group’s brand and marketing manager (Europe), Sam Robinson, said: “Wiper blades are such a safety critical component that manufacturers and drivers need a product they can trust and, as Trico has been manufacturing wiper blades for more than 100 years, it’s a great endorsement that BMW also shares our confidence in the engineering abilities and innovation of the Trico team.

“Therefore, it’s a huge honour to be chosen by BMW to manufacture the OE rear arm and blade for these applications, as it demonstrates that our technical expertise and premium quality products are trusted by such a prominent manufacturer.

“We look forward to continuing this partnership and developing further pioneering designs for the cars of the future.”
