U-POL celebrates million-litre break-through

For the first time in U-POL’s 70-year history, the Northamptonshire-based company has produced more than one million litres of product in a calendar month, and in doing so smashed its former production targets.

Incredibly, the Wellingborough-based factory which is mid way through a multi-million pound investment programme that will see its facilities fully automated by the end of the year, obliterated the previously unattainable goal by producing one million litres of paste material alone – the basis for the array of filler products it is famed for – and a further 400,000 litres of liquid coating products.

Key products include its Premium Dolphin filler range as well as iconic products such as Easy 1 and P.38 filler.

CEO Guy Williams, said: “I have stated many times since taking over the running of U-POL two years ago that we would be waking up a sleeping giant of a company and clearly I was right. This truly is the dawn of a new era for a company that has been serving the vehicle repair industry for seven decades.

“We are investing heavily in modernising our production facilities in Wellingborough in order to meet the demands of the modern repairer. The signs have been incredibly positive for some time, particularly with our increase in production. Producing more than a million litres of filler products alone in a calendar month so early in the investment process is an incredible feat and is well beyond our expectations.”

He added: “We have needed to increase productivity as the demand for our products continue to grow month-on-month, not just here in the UK but overseas, particularly in the US, as vehicle repairers seek out cost and time saving solutions. My admiration goes out to the entire production team who have stepped up to the mark and embraced our new practices, equipment and products.

Guy concluded: “We are midway through our investment programme that really brings our production and packing facilities into the 21st century and will ensure we meet the constant demands put upon us. We would never have dreamt of coming close to producing anywhere near one million litres of product in a single month before our investment and we’ve surpassed that milestone with ease by producing 1.4 million litres in total during April.  It certainly bodes well for the future.”
