Abcon completes major production facility expansion
In recent months, Ireland’s only abrasive belt and disc manufacturer, Abcon has completed a major upgrade to its manufacturing operations through the expansion and modernisation of one of its key production facilities in Co Cavan.
The company said this development was initiated to address sustained growth in both domestic and export demand, and the completed works have now created “a more efficient, higher-capacity environment capable of supporting increased output and future scalability”.

A key milestone in the project was the completion of structural works and the installation of a new insulated roofing system. This enhancement improves energy performance, stabilises internal conditions, and supports consistent year-round production. The exterior has also been fully repainted, giving the facility a clean, refreshed appearance.
Inside, the workflow layout has been reconfigured to accommodate higher volumes and more efficient movement of materials. Newly established access routes between key areas have reduced transfer times, improved coordination, and supported smoother daily operations. The addition of an upgraded staff area has “further strengthened the working environment and supports the needs of our growing workforce”, Abcon said.
One of the most significant improvements is the introduction of a dedicated quality, control, and dispatch zone. Purpose-built to increase output and strengthen process flow, this area is said to have enhanced organisation across critical operations and delivered a notable increase in domestic supply capacity.
Export operations have also benefitted. By centralising export dispatching within the expanded facility, Abcon said it has reduced on-site goods movement, improved turnaround efficiency and freed up valuable space elsewhere for additional production improvements.
Overall, these upgrades have helped Abcon to improve capacity, efficiency, and workflow across both its domestic and export operations.
