BMW deploys humanoid robots at Leipzig plant
BMW Group has deployed humanoid robots at its Leipzig manufacturing plant in Germany as part of a pilot project with Hexagon Robotic.
The project will test Hexagon’s AEON humanoid robot in high-voltage battery assembly and component manufacturing.

It follows on from BMW’s successful robot pilot at its Spartanburg plant in the US, where Figure AI’s Figure 02 robot supported production of more than 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles over 10 months.
In total, it moved more than 90,000 components and covered approximately 1.2 million steps in around 1,250 operating hours.
BMW has established a Center of Competence for Physical AI in Production to consolidate expertise across the company.
The centre evaluates technology partners according to defined maturity criteria and tests them under real-world production conditions.
An initial test deployment took place at Leipzig last December, with a further deployment planned from April 2026. The pilot phase is scheduled to begin this summer.
