Dublin Fire Brigade donates ambulance to TU Dublin apprentices
Dublin Fire Brigade has donated an ambulance to Technological University (TU) Dublin to support the training of its heavy vehicle mechanic apprentices.
The ambulance, based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, is equipped with systems that the apprentices will encounter in today’s transport industry, such as modern exhaust after-treatment systems and advanced electrical technologies.

Philip Cleary, assistant lecturer at TU Dublin, said the donation “will significantly enhance the quality and relevance of our training programmes for the next generation of heavy vehicle mechanics”.
“As a coach-built vehicle, it also utilises a dedicated interface that allows the chassis to communicate with and control body functions — closely mirroring the systems found in city buses and coaches.
“This will provide our apprentices with excellent practical insight into the operation, diagnostics, and integration of body control systems in real-world applications,” he added.
The new ambulance is the latest addition to the fleet at TU Dublin’s Beresford Street premises.
