Mirka innovation challenge aims to boost green transition in surface finishing

Mirka has launched this year’s innovation challenge, where it is inviting creative minds to help boost the green transition in surface finishing.

Through the innovation challenge, Mirka says it aims to discover “impactful ideas that boost circularity, extend product life cycles and create sustainable material solutions”.

The company says this is an opportunity for participants to take their ideas and transform them into successful business concepts.

With 45 per cent of Europe’s CO₂ emissions coming from manufacturing and construction, the need for change is urgent, according to R&D director Mats Sundell.

“This is a journey we take together, no one drives sustainability alone”, he said. The challenge is open for innovators, change-makers, early-stage startups, researchers and students.

“Your idea could transform the way we work. Whether it’s rethinking materials, reducing waste, or reshaping operations, we want to hear it. This is your chance to turn vision into value and we will help you develop your concept,” Sundell added.

In addition to a cash prize, the the competition finalists will have the opportunity to apply for a spot in Mirka’s incubator, M.INC, which provides access to a professional network of experts and support for developing business concepts.

The competition also offers participants valuable feedback from Mirka’s experts to refine their ideas and business models.

In the competition process, participants’ contributions will be evaluated in three rounds, ultimately selecting finalists who will present their innovations at the final event on 12th February, 2026

Submissions for the competition can be sent through M.INC’s website until 16th November, 2025.
