PPG introduces fast-drying clearcoat to Deltron range

PPG has announced the addition of a versatile, fast-drying clearcoat to its leading Deltron portfolio of automotive refinish products.

PPG says the Deltron D8178 Rapid Low Energy clearcoat features new drying technology that offers significant time and energy savings compared to traditional baking processes.

This versatile clearcoat is adaptable to any workshop setup and gives body shops and painters the ability to enhance refinish processes by choosing from a range of drying options:

  • Five minutes at 50 degrees Celsius
  • 10 minutes at 40 degrees Celsius
  • 15 minutes at 20 degrees Celsius dust free (polishable after 45 minutes)

The air-dry mode (20 degrees Celsius) delivers up to 65 per cent energy savings compared to a standard clearcoat baked for 20 minutes at 60 degrees Celsius.

The energy savings can contribute towards sustainability targets, while reduced process times mean that body shops and repair centres can work more efficiently and optimise painters’ time, increasing productivity and profitability.

“Our new clearcoats help body shops to achieve extremely positive results in terms of performance, efficiency and consistent high-quality finishes,” said Juan Navarro, PPG marketing operations director, EMEA, Automotive Refinish. “

This has been verified over a period of testing during which 21 body shops across seven countries performed hundreds of repairs. It is also rewarding to empower painters with greater control over their workflow. This improves the experience for their customers and is achieved without any compromise on productivity.”

PPG will be exhibiting at the 2026 Auto Trade EXPO, which takes place alongside the CV Workshop EXPO from 10th -11th October at the RDS Simmonscourt in Dublin.
