PPG introduces new Deltron clearcoat
PPG has introduced a versatile, fast-drying clearcoat to its leading PPG Deltron portfolio of automotive refinish products across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
PPG Deltron D8178 Rapid Low Energy clearcoat features new drying technology that offers significant time and energy savings compared to traditional baking processes, according to the company.

This versatile clearcoat is adaptable to any workshop setup and gives bodyshops and painters the ability to enhance refinish processes by choosing from a range of drying options:
- Five minutes at 50 degrees Celsius
- Ten minutes at 40 degrees Celsius
- Fifteen minutes at 20 degrees Celsius dust free (polishable after 45 minutes)
The air-dry mode (20 degrees Celsius) delivers up to 60 per cent energy savings compared to a standard clearcoat baked for 20 minutes at 60 degrees Celsius.
PPG says the energy savings can contribute towards sustainability targets, while reduced process times mean that bodyshops and repair centres can work more efficiently and optimise painters’ time, increasing productivity and profitability.
“Our new clearcoats help bodyshops to achieve extremely positive results in terms of performance, efficiency and consistent high-quality finishes,” said Juan Navarro, PPG marketing operations director, EMEA, Automotive Refinish.
“This has been verified over a period of testing during which 21 bodyshops across seven countries performed hundreds of repairs. It is also rewarding to empower painters with greater control over their workflow. This improves the experience for their customers and is achieved without any compromise on productivity.”
PPG will be exhibiting at the 2026 Auto Trade EXPO, which takes place alongside the CV Workshop EXPO from 10th -11th October at the RDS Simmonscourt in Dublin.
