{"id":31591,"date":"2026-05-13T14:14:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bodyshop.ie\/?p=31591"},"modified":"2026-05-13T14:14:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:14:16","slug":"liam-denning-named-new-president-of-simi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bodyshop.ie\/index.php\/liam-denning-named-new-president-of-simi\/31591","title":{"rendered":"Liam Denning named new president of SIMI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) has announced Liam Denning as its newly elected president.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A prominent figure in the vehicle body repair sector, Denning brings decades of hands-on family business experience to the position.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, he will be the first president of the SIMI to represent the VBRS (Vehicle Body Repair Sector).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79264\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79264\" style=\"width: 698px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-79264\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/SIMI-President-Liam-Denning_Image-3-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"698\" height=\"1046\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79264\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SIMI president Liam Denning<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI am truly honoured to accept the role and do so with pride and responsibility,&#8221; said the newly elected SIMI president. &#8220;I look forward to representing our members and working closely with the SIMI in the coming year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Denning remarked on the pressures facing the industry \u2013 rising costs, staff attraction and retention, keeping abreast of technology &#8211; all within a challenging global environment.<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging that electrification was now centre stage, and the whole industry has had to rapidly evolve to keep pace with the changing technology, through continuous training, upskilling, and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite positive market developments, the transition to electrification is only starting to gain traction,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Currently, the national average vehicle age is over 10 years old, meaning the equity gap that allows consumers to trade up to a new or newer car is widening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the EV project is to succeed, it must be supported through continued investment.
