charges ahead as market leader in March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ford was the top-selling brand in Ireland\u2019s car and van market during March, according to figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ford achieved a 13.1 per cent share (2,911units) of the overall market during the month, followed by Volkswagen with 12.2 per cent or 2,692 units and Toyota with 10.0 per cent or 2,218 units.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19025\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/16-Transit-Custom.jpg\" alt=\"16-Transit-Custom\" width=\"615\" height=\"361\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Total car and light commercial vehicle sales for the month broke down as follows: 19,046 cars (up 33.2 per cent on the March 2014 figure of 14,297) and 3,095 light CVs (up 48.2 per cent on the March 2014 figure of 2,088).<\/p>\n<p>Ford Ireland Chairman and Managing Director, Ciaran McMahon, commented: \u201cThese figures show that the recovery in the car market and, in particular, the van market is continuing apace.\u00a0 It is heartening to see that our vehicles were again the number one choice among Irish drivers.\u00a0 With total car sales of 19,046 for the month, we reckon that the full year sales for the industry will finish in the region of 120,000 units \u2013 that is a considerable increase on the 96,338 sales figure for 2014 and a great indicator of the continuing strengthening of the Irish economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Retaining its position as Ireland\u2019s favourite van brand, Ford\u2019s Transit range again dominated the van sales charts.\u00a0 Year-on-year, the company more than doubled its sales tally in the van segment \u2013 going from 434 units in March 2014 to 876 units in March of this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe excellent growth in our van sales has been driven by a number of factors, not least our very attractive low 3.9 per cent APR and the very welcome return to the market of the single van operator, such as plumbers, carpenters and other trades people who have had to delay renewing their vehicles during the downturn\u201d, concluded McMahon.<\/p>\n<p>In relation to cars, the Ford Focus and the Ford Fiesta were both placed in the top-six best-selling models for the
