Mirka expands Iridium abrasive performance and flexibility for bodyshops
Mirka’s Iridium abrasive range is expanding with perforated rolls and a wider range of grits alongside a series of technical upgrades.
The company says the expansion is designed to provide users with a flexible product that can cover numerous collision repair applications, including paint and filler removal, primer preparation, clear-coat sanding and post-paint finishing.
Mirka says the upgrade delivers a high-quality surface finish, reduces process times and increases productivity, as the abrasive cuts faster to reduce process time by up to 15 per cent.

The perforated rolls gives enhanced flexibility as it enables technicians to tear off the right number of strips to fit blocks, allowing them to sand large or small jobs using a premium abrasive that provides a consistent premium surface finish.
The upgraded Iridium features a new ceramic grain technology, which includes improved grain distribution and optimised grain orientation, updated top-coat resin and enhanced anti-clogging properties, making it robust and hard-wearing while enabling faster cutting and longer-lasting performance.
The expanded Iridium range now includes the ultra-coarse 40 grit and goes up to the 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 ultra-fine grits. The addition of the ultra-fine grits is an asset to bodyshops because it brings together a complete solution including discs, rolls, sheets and strips, and its coarse and fine grits allow the abrasive to work well on both soft and hard surfaces, while its flexible backing also offers excellent grain adhesion and no loss of the grains, even when folded.
In addition, the complete grit range available enables bodyshops to cherry-pick the abrasives they need, this optimisation helps businesses to accurately manage their abrasive spend as they are only investing in the grits that are required and the monetary savings that are made can be reinvested back into the business.
Steve Smith, national sales manager, Collision Repair, Mirka UK, said: “With margins on jobs getting tighter, we know that bodyshops need abrasives that work harder for every job and the upgraded Iridium range does just that.
“Our R&D team has developed it so that it is durable, cuts faster and provides long-lasting performance to help bodyshops improve productivity, reduce key-to-key times and maintain a consistently high-quality finish from the first use to the last.”
Mirka will be exhibiting at the 2026 Auto Trade EXPO, which takes place alongside the CV Workshop EXPO from 10th -11th October at the RDS Simmonscourt in Dublin.
