NCTS issuing digital vehicle inspection reports

The National Car Testing Service (NCTS) is offering drivers who pass their NCT the option of having their vehicle inspection report issued via email, eliminating the need for paper.

The NCTS estimates that this will save over 1,500,000 sheets of paper annually.

Failing reports will continue to be printed at test centres, to ensure vehicle inspectors can “thoroughly explain any remedial work required to our customers, face-to-face”, it said.

Earlier this summer the Government announced plans to also digitise car tax and insurance discs, starting from 2026.

Head of the NCTS, Mark Synnott, said early feedback “shows most customers prefer” the electronic option.

“We commenced issuing vehicle inspection reports to customers who wished to receive them electronically rather than in paper format, mid-July,” he told Bodyshop.ie. “Now that the email delivery has proven successful, we are stopping the printing of passing vehicle inspection reports for those that choose to receive them via email.”
