Schaeffler’s new Electric Axle Repair Tool installed in first garages

Schaeffler has completed the first installations of its new Electric Axle Repair Tool, a specialised device capable of repairing electric powertrains.

Cleevely Electric Vehicles and LKQ Electriq, two specialist electric repair centres in the UK, are the first to put the new device into operation.

According to Schaeffler, the new tool enables precise, non-contact disassembly and reassembly of rotors and stators. Instead of replacing entire motors at high cost, targeted repairs can now be performed – saving resources and supporting a sustainable circular economy.

Permanent magnets create a strong magnetic field, which can make handling the rotor difficult. The gap between the stator and the rotor, known as the ‘air gap’, is crucial for an electric motor to function properly. A smaller gap increases the motor’s efficiency.

Additionally, the magnetic force can cause the rotor to adhere to the stator, making it difficult to remove. Furthermore, permanent magnets are fragile and can be easily damaged by impact or improper handling.

The E-Axle Repair Tool is suitable for all garages focusing on electric motor repair and looking to tap into new business opportunities.

It is now available and compatible with all existing Schaeffler repair solutions and axle systems, including the E-Axle RepSystem-G and E-Axle RepSystem-M.

Alistair Mason, technical services manager at Schaeffler REPXPERT, said the first installations mark “another milestone in supporting the independent aftermarket as EV technology continues to evolve”.

“By providing the right tools and technical support, Schaeffler are helping workshops and customers expand their capabilities, enabling them to carry out high-quality repairs, while keeping more electric vehicles on the road.

“I’m looking forward to growing our network of specialist EV repair centres, working with more workshops that are committed to building the future of independent EV repair,” he added.

Schaeffler will be exhibiting at the 2026 Auto Trade EXPO, which takes place alongside the CV Workshop EXPO from 10th -11th October at the RDS Simmonscourt in Dublin.
